Sustainable Procurement Policy

TPA Portable Roadways has identified that it has a role to play in terms of sustainable development. We recognise that our procurement decisions for goods, services and works have a social, economic and environmental impact, both locally and potentially globally.

TPA Portable Roadways will therefore strive to:

Policy and Strategy

Challenge the need for consumption of goods and services as a precursor to use and promote the use of recycling and reuse of materials wherever possible;

Consider costs/benefits of environmentally preferable goods and services as alternatives, where possible taking the total cost ownership (including environmental factors) into account in the procurement decision making process;

Gather environmental management data on goods and services including CO2 emissions;

Determine the environmental and corporate risks to the organisation in developing a sustainable supply chain whilst being committed to working with our supplier base;

Identify commodities and suppliers that are strategic to TPA Portable Roadways sustainable procurement programme;

Work with suppliers to reduce the environmental impacts of goods and services supplied to TPA Portable Roadways.

Raise Awareness

Communicate the sustainable procurement policy internally and externally to our stakeholders, including staff, customers and suppliers;

Encourage staff to actively review the consumption of goods and services and where possible reduce usage through the adoption of more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Procurement Process

Promote sustainable procurement across the entire supplier base;

Validate all contracted suppliers’ environmental credentials;

Factor environmental and sustainable supply options into the procurement decision making process when awarding contracts and supply agreements;

Where possible and practical, specify the use of environmentally friendly goods and sustainable supply chains;

Ensure our procurement processes do not create barriers to entry to BME and SME businesses.

Supplier Engagement Strategy

Concentrating initially on strategic suppliers, actively promote best practice for sustainable procurement and extend this programme when practical to non-strategic suppliers;

Raise awareness of suppliers through questionnaires and purchasing processes in relation to TPA Portable Roadways commitment to sustainable procurement.

Compliance

Ensure that TPA Portable Roadways procurement policy at all times complies with its legal and regulatory requirement in relation to Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity.
