Stairways

TPA promotes two ranges of stairways that are portable and for temporary use, making them ideal to use on construction sites, rail embankments and at outdoor events.

Our engineers are on hand to assess your specific needs and recommend either our in-house stairways, or those that we stock from Combisafe.

In-house Stairways

These can be made to measure in order to fulfil your brief. The slope-hugging low gradient and low rise makes them especially friendly to the elderly ort those that may strugle with high steps such as parents with pushchairs. The gradient can be adjusted to meet virtually any incline, whilst side rails can be installed to provide a sturdy hand rail. A 2-way system can be created by installing a centrally positioned rail if required.

Combisafe Stairways

Specifically, as more contractors move away from using ladders as a means of gaining access between levels on construction sites, TPA supplies 'Combisafe' stairways to provide a safe, simple and practical answer. The stairway has been designed to meet the access performance requirements within the European Standard EN 12811 (Temporary Works Equipment - performance requirements and general design) Incorporating a double handrail on both sides which automatically adjusts to the correct height, the treads will always be horizontal whatever angle the stairs are erected. The section lengths can be joined and supported to provide a single climb height of up to 7.5 metres.

Other benefits include:

  • An automatic locking mechanism which engages once the stairs are at the correct angle.
  • An additional manual lock for use on long term hire or where the ground is loose or uneven.
  • Expandable metal plates for grip and clearing muddy footwear whilst in use.
  • Access is provided for up to two people at once as the stairs are over 750mm wide. For heavier usage, stairways can be set up in pairs.
  • Stairways can be easily erected on site by two operatives. Lifting equipment is required for stairs over 12 steps.
Longer runs of stairs (over 21 steps) will require a combibeam for stiffness. This can be pre-fitted prior to dispatch to speed up installation. Attachments can also be provided to mount the stairway onto a slab (a splice bracket is used to secure the stairway to the concrete) or to hook onto standard scaffolding tube.
