Best Laid Plans at Sunderland Stadium

TPA Pave the Way for Take That Concert at Sunderland's the Stadium of Light

Sunderland Stadium of Light

Directly after Saturday's game against Wolves, TPA moved in to begin the mammoth task of getting the stadium of Light ground ready for the arrival of pop superstars Take That later this month. Take That kick off their Progress Live tour, their first as a reformed five-piece with Robbie Williams, with a series of four sold out concerts at the Stadium of Light, beginning on Friday, May 27.

The contract is followed by a 2nd instalment at the Stadium for the debut of American rockers Kings of Leon on Friday, June 17. In total, the concerts will see TPA’s Aluminium Flooring walked on by more than a quarter of a million concert goers.

TPA’s Project Director Terry Mead and six crews worked late into the night to make sure the pitch was ready on time. The installation at the Stadium of light is the first of 5 stadium contracts TPA are doing this year and it was essential that we made sure our customer’s expectations were exceeded.

Roy Morley of Site and Event Logistics commented”I've never seen such a slick and fast install (ever) and the end result was exactly as per the plan. Everyone who saw this operation in progress was blown away! You'd finished laying half a pitch of Ali before the hospitality for the football had finished!”

The festive break proved the ideal time for the installation of a new rail bridge which needed to be positioned over Grange Road, Sellyoak near Birmingham; and TPA, the portable access specialist, was on hand to assist contractors Birse Rail and Birse Civils JV in the giant manoeuvre.
