The initial call was received at TPA’s main Worksop depot at 9.00am on the Friday morning prompting Ian Burney, TPA’s rail engineer, to dispatch himself to Cumbria from where he was able to do a site survey and relay the information back to the office by 11.00am that same day. Operations then organised an installation team and panels to be on site by 5.00am the following morning.
The team were able to install 600 ‘Traxpanels’ over ½ a kilometre, negotiating a single track road to the site from where they also installed passing places. By 7.00am on the Sunday morning, a six metre wide roadway had been created which stretched for over 500 metres and included working areas for the heavy machinery required by the customer. This included eight wheeler lorries to transport over 4000 tonnes of vital raw materials over a two day period which then allowed the speed restriction impossed by Network Rail to be lifted.

The site itself wasn’t straightforward, which is typical of many rail sites, but the crew rose to the challenge and provided the customer with exactly what was needed within a very tight timescale enabling them to start work on the Monday morning as scheduled.”
